The Best Time Travel Movies Ever Made
List of the best movies about time machines and time travel. The idea of travelling through time has always had an innate appeal, and has found its way into nearly every art form known to man, so it's unsurprising that it's one of the largest and richest science-fiction sub-genres in film history. Films with time themes present a unique way to think about the wonders of the universe. Some of the earliest films about traveling through time were based on a series of popular science-fiction stories dealing with the topic, including adaptations of the classic novels "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain and "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells (among others.)

Over the course of film history, time travel has found its way beyond just science-fiction movies and into just about every different kind of genre and storytelling style. Many of the most popular time travel movies of all time, in fact, are comedies, such as "Back to the F*ture," "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," "Army of Darkness" and "Hot Tub Time Machine." Other films have used time travel as a backdrop for romance (as in "Somewhere in Time" or "The Time Traveler's Wife"), mysteries (as in "Time After Time") and, of course, action filmmaking (as in James Cameron's "Terminator" films.)

What are the best time travel movies? This list seeks to answer that question.

Despite their differences in tone and presentation, most time travel films explore similar themes, or rely on consistent motifs and common ideas about what it means to travel through time. For example, many films explore the negative consequences associated with "changing the past" while traveling through time, implying that even a small difference in the past could have massive ramifications on how the f*ture develops. (This often goes hand-in-hand with the idea that humans running into their past counterparts could create a paradox that would rip apart the space-time continuum.) Other common themes in time travel stories include a person or group that serves as Time Overlords or controllers who maintain balance, or people who venture back in time hoping to stop bad things in the past from ever occurring. These are some of the best time travel films, but if you don't see your favorite, make sure to add it to this list of the best time travel films so it might soon become someone else's favorite.

The Best Movies Based on DC Comics
A list of DC Comics movies. These are films based on DC comics such as Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern, characters that live within the DC Universe. Unlike other comic book companies which really didn't start having films made until the turn of the century, DC Comics have been a bit more popular with several films being released in the 80s and a number of movies and serials dating all the way back to 1951.

Ironically, movies based on DC Comics almost put the comic book movie genre out of business during the 1990's (the Batman sequels). Today though, DC Comics films are in the middle of a renaissance. DC Comics is currently owned by DC Entertainment, which in turn is owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment and they have been putting out some excellent DC Comics movies as of late.

If you're into movies based on comic books, check out the best Marvel comic movies for more awesome comic book movie action.

What the best movies based on DC Comics? It's up to you to decide.

The Best James Bond Movie Theme Songs
The best James Bond theme songs manage to blend perfectly with the Bond movie's opening credits (the title sequence). For Bond fans, the title sequence is extremely important, as it sets the theme of the entire film. This list includes most of the major theme songs from 007 movies, dating back to the 1960s, along with the artists and the movie titles (if they are different than the song titles). From the originals to the remixes from the famous djs around the world. Some of these 007 theme songs are great, and some are not great -- but which one is the best? That's up to you to decide, with your votes!

Typically, major music stars are recruited to sing the James Bond film these songs, and in 2012, Adele's song "Skyfall," from the Bond movie of the same name, was released. Adele is just one of the heavy hitting singers chosen to sing the title James Bond song. Others include Carly Simon ("Nobody Does It Better," from 1977's 'The Spy Who Loved Me'), Rita Coolidge ("All Time High" from 1983's 'Octop***y') and of course, the incomparable Shirley Bassey, who sang three James Bond Movie theme songs ('Goldfinger,' 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'Moonraker').

Here's the thing: It's totally okay to love a James Bond theme song from some of the best rock bands of all time, even if you didn't particularly love the movie. When you vote, be sure to consider the actual song, not just the film as a whole.

Are you a 007 movie fanatic? If so, check out these lists of the hottest James Bond babes, the best James Bond cars and of course, the best James Bond movies of all-time. Enjoy!

What are the best Coen brothers films? This is a list that you can help rank of all the films made by the ever-brilliant Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan. Vote for your favorites or really affect the order by ranking and posting your own list with the "re-rank this list your way" button. And of course, if for some reason you didn't like a particular Coen brothers movie, feel free to vote it down, but know that many of their films are considered among the best movies of all time.

The Coen brothers do it all: They write, direct and produce their films together, and they have an impressively successful track record. Their list of notable films is growing longer each year, along with their Academy Awards nominations and wins. From 'Fargo' to 'The Big Lebowski' to 'Barton Fink,' it's hard not to be impressed with the Coens when you see their amazing films listed in one place. Their films are among the most quotable movies and the most rewatchable films of all time.

Movies directed by or written by Joel and Ethan Coen that have been nominated for a Best Picture Oscar include 2010's 'True Grit' and 1996's 'Fargo.' The Best Movie Sequels

The Best Movie Sequels
What are the best movie sequels ever made? This list includes several of the greatest movies of all time, and they all have one thing in common: They were film number two in a series. Which sequel do you believe deserves the top spot? Vote for your favorites, vote down any sequels you didn't like and feel free to add any films that might be missing - though remember, this is a list of second films, so no "Part III's" please. You can also re-rank this movie list in any order you choose.

It's really, really hard to argue that 'The Godfather Part II' shouldn't be at the top, or at the very least, near the top of this list. It's one of only a handful of sequels to receive an Academy Award Best Picture nomination (it win, in 1974, by the way). 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' also received a Best Picture nomination, though it did not win (the third installment in the series, did). This is proof that just because a film is a sequel, it can also be among the very best Oscar-winning movies.

Need more proof? 'The Silence of the Lambs, technically the sequel to 'Manhunter,' won the so-called "big five" at the Academy Awards: Best Picture, Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Director (Jonathan Demme), Actress (Jodie Foster) and Best Writing/Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally).

Some of the best movie sequels, not surprisingly, are also among the best superhero movies ever made. Among them: 'The Dark Knight,' 'Spider-Man 2' and 'X2.' Other notable movies worth a mention (and a spot on this list) include 'Superman II,' 'Iron Man 2' and 'Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.' Disagree? Vote them down. To each, his (or her) own!

The Best War Movies Ever

The Best War Movies Ever
Best movies about war, battles and military conflicts. These films recreate some of the most significant events in world history from a variety of perspectives and with a variety of purposes and intentions. Some war films attempt to recreate as realistically as possible the events that they depict, either from an omniscient perspective permitted by historical study or from the point of view of the soldiers and civilians involved in the conflict itself. Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down," for example, was both praised in its time and heavily criticized for bringing a "you are there" sense of realism - and little outside or cultural perspective - to a recreation of the Battle of Mogadishu.

Other films use war as a backdrop to look at larger issues - such as man's inhumanity to man or the crippling impact of post-traumatic stress - or just as a meditation on war itself. Finally, films like "Glory" and "Band of Brothers" examine the personal drama of a few individuals, and mine it for larger insights about the meaning of war and the impact that violence has on individual human lives.

Finally, some war films - particularly those made during the classic Hollywood era - are simply adventure films with war providing a compelling setting and situation. "The Great Escape," for example, remains a classic not because of its grand ideas about the nature of war, but because it is a ceaselessly entertaining spectacle.

Vote for your favorite war films to move them up the list. And if your favorites are not yet represented, make your own version of the list and add them!

The Greatest TV Characters of All Time

The Greatest TV Characters of All Time
List of TV's most memorable characters, of all time, chosen by the Ranker community. What makes a character live on in the public's memory, even years after the original run of their respective TV programs? In some cases, it's the amount of depth that the show's writers, actors and other creators were able to bring to the character over the course of many years. For many of the greatest TV characters of all time, audiences feel like they get to know personalities like Dexter Morgan from "Dexter." Even after the show leaves the air, they may not want that relationship to end. (Thankfully, they don't have to, as many shows live on for years after their cancellation on DVD and in syndication.) The best TV characters are ones that you feel like you know and that you'd want to be friends with.

TV has brought many characters to life who have been extremely compelling, even if they are not entirely likeable. Viewers may not wish to know dangerous, shadowy figures like Tony Soprano, Vernon Schillinger and Omar Little in reality, but following their exploits safely from the comfort of your living room can be appealing. Likewise, people who might be aloof or downright unpleasant in real life - think "Mad Men's" Don Draper or Al Swearengen of "Deadwood" - can prove charming, even admirable, when seen at a distance, with the subtext and intricacy that a long-running TV show can provide.

Who is the greatest TV character ever? This list contains the greatest, most fascinating and most enduring fictional characters from TV of all time. Be sure to vote for your favorites, and if some of your favorite characters aren't represented, go ahead and re-rank the list to contribute to the discussion.

The Best Serial Legal Dramas of All Time

The Best Serial Legal Dramas of All Time
The best serial legal dramas of all time include some truly outstanding law-related TV shows. Many of the law dramas listed here have been, or were, on the air for many years, thrilling viewers with complicated and compelling legal cases and outcomes. This list includes a lot of fantastic legal dramas, but it is far from complete, so feel free to add your personal favorites. Also, be sure to vote for those legal dramas you believe are worthy of the "best all time" description, and vote down any law TV shows you just can't stand.

What makes for a great serial legal drama? The show needs to have interesting, popular characters, a solid script and excellent, fresh storylines. There's no doubt that TV viewers love their television lawyers -- Perry Mason (Raymond Burr), Patty Hewes (Glenn Close on 'Damages'), Bobby Donnell (Dylan McDermott on 'The Practice') and Ally McBeal (Calista Flockhart) are just a few notable examples.

Legal TV dramas tend to be very popular and long-running series. They may also cross over to include a certain amount of procedural crime drama as well. The best example of this is definitely the tremendously popular and successful 'Law & Order' franchise (think 'Law & Order: SVU' and 'Law & Order: Trial By Jury'). These shows combine both sides of the coin -- the cops who catch the criminals, and the lawyers who either defend, or prosecute them (insert dramatic "dum dum!" sound here).

Time to vote, or even to rerank this list your way. Enjoy!

Favorite TV Dads of All Time

Favorite TV Dads of All Time
List of the greatest and most memorable dads from through television history. Which TV fathers were the most inspirational? Who taught you the most about growing up and becoming an adult? Which TV fathers were just the funniest and most entertaining? Any TV dads who fit these criteria are eligible for this list, an attempt to drill down into the definitive answer to the question: "Who's the world's favorite TV Dad?"

Vote: Favorite TV Moms of All Time

Classic sitcoms revolving largely around the family gave us a ton of Dads to choose from, and for the most part, they were traditionally good fathers. Guys like Rob Petrie, Andy Taylor and Howard Cunningham looked out for their kids, paid attention to their needs and gave them solid life and career advice.

Through the '80s and '90s, pop culture got a bit a bit more realistic or cynical, depending on who you ask, and TV Dads became more of a hodge-podge of responsibility and immaturity, reflecting the real, complex and often difficult job of being a father. Though there remain the shining examples of great TV dads like Cliff Huxtable from "The Cosby Show" and Dan Conner from "Roseanne," you now had alternative views of fatherhood, like Homer Simpson and the iconic Al Bundy.

But this list doesn't discriminate! If your favorite TV dads are likely to lose their kids at the mall, ignore them in favor of football and beer or forget their birthdays, vote for 'em anyway! Your old man would be proud.

The Best Current Procedural Dramas

The Best Current Procedural Dramas
List of top procedural dramas currently on-air. Television dramas fall into two categories: procedural and serial. Dramatic series in the procedural genre often have one new plot line every week, as opposed to a serial, shows with a continuing story arc or plot. Procedurals often follow a "case-of-the-week" formula, which makes the story easy for television viewers to follow. A number of procedural programs have been included in the greatest TV dramas of all time. This list includes both serial cop dramas and serial legal dramas, as well as long-running procedurals.

One of the most successful procedural drama franchises is CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which premiered in 2000 and has launched two popular spin-offs CSI: NY and CSI: Miami. Current procedural dramas feature a dynamic and memorable lead character with a quirky personality, from mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), to forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel). Ensemble casts are also common in any drama procedural, especially in most-watched shows set around a law enforcement agency, medical facility, or courtroom. The predictable format of such highly-rated programs also makes it easy to air as re-runs because viewers often don't have to follow a certain order or have seen previous episodes. What is the best current procedural drama? Use the list below to vote for the top dramatic procedural that is currently on-air, and if your favorite show isn't included, make sure to add to the list so that other viewers can become fans, too!

The Best TV Villains of All Time
The best TV villains of all time rank among some of the greatest TV characters of all time as well as some of the creepiest TV characters ever. While some TV villains exist to make the lead characters appear more heroic, some of them are just plain old, nasty jerks. Regardless of their motivations, the top TV bad guys make us want to bust into the TV and kick some butt, fictional style.

Many of TV's greatest greatest villains didn't start that way; some of these men and women started out as virtuous people who took a skid into the darker ways of the world. Think of Breaking Bad's Gustavo Fring, a legitimate business man turned meth trafficking d-bag. Or Dexter Morgan who started out killing only bad guys and then went and got tangled up with killing people as a CYA offensive action. Of course, there's also people like Game of Throne's Joffrey Baratheon and The Simpsons' C. Montgomery Burns who seem to get off on tormenting people. They are the worst kind of awesome bad guys.

Who is the best bad guy on TV? What television shows have the greatest TV villains?  This best television villains list has all the top TV villains in one place for you to vote on. The Greatest Bad Boys in TV History
List of the greatest bad boys in TV history. Here is a listing of the cream of the crop when it comes to television's best bad boys. The best and the baddest of the bunch make their ensemble that much richer. Perhaps Samuel L. Jackson's character in "Pulp Fiction" would refer to the TV characters ranker here as "BAMFS." Whatever tough guy categorization you would like to give these characters, they are undoubtedly the coolest -- if not particularly warm -- men to grace our screens every week. And nobody can down whiskey like Don Draper, just like nobody could scare television parents like bad boys next door Ryan Atwood ("The O.C.") and Shawn Hunter ("Boy Meets World").

This list includes TV bad boy characters with dark brooding attitudes, leather jackets, motorcycles, dour dispositions, sad mysterious pasts, questionable ethics - and hopeful girls who love them anyway. The Best Series Finales
This list of the best series finales in television is a somber reminder that no matter how much you love a TV character or a show, in time, they all will end. Your favorite TV couple, your favorite TV villain, and even your favorite TV businesses will all close up shop at some point, and these are the best final episodes of those TV shows that are no longer on the air. And believe it or not, some of the best TV shows ever didn't make the list because they were great TV shows with bad finales.

This list includes the greatest television series finales in the history of television, ranked by TV viewers who had a strong reaction- good or bad- to the final episodes of their favorite shows. Some of these TV shows had the highest ranked series finales of all time while others are on the list simply for resonating with their fans. Some series finales, like the final episode of Newhart, are still talked about because people can't believe the show actually ended that way. Others, like M*A*S*H, rank high because they were emotionally fulfilling to the fans who had turned on their TVs and opened their lives to those most loved TV characters week after week right up until the end.

What TV series had the best series finale? That's what this list is here to decide. Remember, the top series finales both wrapped up the storylines AND left viewers wanting more. The Best Single Season Cancelled Shows
What are the best single season cancelled shows in television history? These shows were actually really great, but for whatever reason (usually ratings), they got the ax after just a handful of episodes. Without a doubt, many on this list of series canceled after one season deserved much longer runs. These TV shows were canceled before their time. Vote for the shows you think didn't deserve just one season on the air and feel free to re-rank this list your way, too. It might surprise you to learn that despite their great successes, entertainment heavyweights like Judd Apatow and Joss Whedon didn't always come out on top. Whedon's 'Firefly' remains one of the most unjust cancellations in TV history, as does Apatow's 'Freaks and Geeks' (both are now among the all-time top cult TV shows.
