TV Shows That Should Be Canceled
The worst TV shows on the air, that deserve cancellation after this current season. Though reality TV is often singled out as the trashiest current options on television, numerous shows from a variety of genres have made the cut on this collection of failed entertainment products. Competition to get on the television remains intense, but has lessened over the years, as extensive cable packages and streaming options have exploded the number of new TV series being produced. Of course, this opened up opportunities for stations like AMC and FX to experiment with exciting new programming, but also allows for innumerable bad knock-offs, stupid reality competitions and painfully unfunny comedies.

Basic cable channels, particularly MTV and Bravo, seem to be singled out on the list a bit, with entries like "Jersey Shore," "The Pauly D Project," "16 and Pregnant" and the "Real Housewives..." series taking up a number of the top spots. The list also includes a number of once-beloved shows that are seen as "past their prime" or overdue for cancellation, such as NBC's venerable mockumentary-sitcom "The Office," the Charlie Sheen-less "Two and a Half Men" and Showtime's pot dramedy "Weeds."

List of TV's most memorable characters, of all time, chosen by the Ranker community. What makes a character live on in the public's memory, even years after the original run of their respective TV programs? In some cases, it's the amount of depth that the show's writers, actors and other creators were able to bring to the character over the course of many years. For many of the greatest TV characters of all time, audiences feel like they get to know personalities like Dexter Morgan from "Dexter." Even after the show leaves the air, they may not want that relationship to end. (Thankfully, they don't have to, as many shows live on for years after their cancellation on DVD and in syndication.) The best TV characters are ones that you feel like you know and that you'd want to be friends with.

TV has brought many characters to life who have been extremely compelling, even if they are not entirely likeable. Viewers may not wish to know dangerous, shadowy figures like Tony Soprano, Vernon Schillinger and Omar Little in reality, but following their exploits safely from the comfort of your living room can be appealing. Likewise, people who might be aloof or downright unpleasant in real life - think "Mad Men's" Don Draper or Al Swearengen of "Deadwood" - can prove charming, even admirable, when seen at a distance, with the subtext and intricacy that a long-running TV show can provide.

List of the sexiest celebrity women of the era of slackers, "Hackers" and grunge rock: the 1990s. These models, actresses, singers and reality stars ruled the airwaves in the '90s, and many became pop culture icons for their sultry looks and sexy performances. Many of the women featured on the list have remained popular since the 1990s, and continue to have success in the entertainment industry to this day. Gwyneth Paltrow may have won an Oscar for her role in "Shakespeare in Love," but a new generation knows her primarily as Pepper Potts from the "Iron Man" films (and maybe her guest appearances on "Glee.") Heather Graham, as well, was recognizable in the '90s as adult film starlet Roller Girl in "Boogie Nights," and Jon Favreau's latest crush in "Swingers," but may be more popular than ever thanks to her turn in "The Hangover." Jennifer Love Hewitt turned heads in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and continues to do so in her Lifetime series "The Client List." Some '90s actresses known primarily for sexy roles in that era have gone on to earn accolades for more serious parts in subsequent years, particularly Charlize Theron, who won an Oscar for her role as a serial killer in "Monster."

Not all popular '90s celebs have gone on to such success in subsequent years. Tiffani Theissen and Elizabeth Berkeley drew huge followings from their years on "Saved by the Bell," but fizzled when they tried to segue to other film and TV projects. Pamela Anderson hasn't found a way to capitalize on her many years as the star of "Baywatch," save a rather unwelcome cameo in "Borat." And whatever happened to Elizabeth Hurley? She was everywhere in the late '90s...

The all-time greatest late night talk show hosts have entertained us for years as we drift off to sleep. These hosts are charismatic, often hilarious and sometimes controversial. One thing they are not: They are never boring. From the early days of late night television to the current crop of late night hosts, this list includes some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. Vote for the late night talk show hosts you enjoy the most, and vote down any that you believe are the most annoying TV hosts ever. Let's face it: All late night TV hosts are not created equal. It takes a special skill set to continually present us with fresh, interesting information. We like our witty celebrities and comedians, so is it any wonder that some names on this list are also among the funniest people of all time? Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart are all excellent examples of hosts who possess that rare wit and the ability to think quickly (because in late night, you never know what will happen). And certainly, one of the most most famous late night talk show hosts of all time, Johnny Carson, was one of the most intelligent, likeable and genuinely funny people ever to grace the small screen.

If it seems like the late night TV talk show hosts field is dominated by men, it is, but there are a few notable exceptions. Comedian Chelsea Handler has carved out a nifty little niche for herself with her E! show 'Chelsea Lately.' And back in the day, Joan Rivers was actually a really great regular 'Tonight Show' permanent fill-in host. Unfortunately, Rivers' own late night TV talk show, 'The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers,' (circa 1986 on FOX), didn't fare well at all.

And then, of course, you've got the highly publicized and totally ridiculous late night TV host drama: 'The Tonight Show' showdown involving Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. Late night television is big, big business, and the resulting conflicts that arise certainly reflect that fact.

The funniest female TV characters are those whom we've both laughed at and laughed with, sharing their hilarious moments and sometimes their most touching ones. These funny females are mothers, friends, wives and businesswomen -- comical television character versions of the roles women play in real life. Sometimes easy to relate to, sometimes not, funny female TV characters keep viewers returning to the TV for season after season.

 While most truly funny women on TV can be found in sitcoms, a few of the best and funniest women in television can be found in dramas. Ally McBeal proved that a leading woman’s role could deal with dramatic situations, yet still allow the female lead to be humorous. A few of the funniest female TV characters have also come from books adapted into television shows, as in the case of Piper Chapman -- who also plays in a drama.

 Some of the funniest women on TV are known for their antics; a classic example is Lucy Ricardo’s failure to pronounce “Vitameatavegamin” after becoming tipsy off the health tonic of the same name. Some of TV’s funniest women are known for their rants or musings. Remember when Elaine Benes had to decide whether men were ‘spongeworthy?' No matter why viewers find them funny, these quirky, witty female characters continue to stand the test of time and give both men and women hilarious females to enjoy on TV.

 Whoever your favorite funny women on TV are, chances are they’ve become characters you can watch again and again. And that’s the real test: The funniest female TV characters aren’t just funny once, they’re enjoyable and humorous with repeated viewings. They’re human, they’re engaging and these funny television females give audiences not only a laugh, but a lift -- whether they earned one season, six seasons or more.

Some were actually really good mothers, while others were just cool, funny and amusing. Which TV moms are the most memorable to you? Some of the most memorable TV moms somehow always managed to get everything done with ease. How, exactly, did Carol Brady keep up with that whole bunch? To be fair, she had a lot of help from Alice, but still...it's not easy. And yes, not all of the favorite TV mothers on this list are as capable as say, Shirley Partridge ('The Partridge Family'), or as kind and nurturing as Caroline Ingalls ('Little House on the Prairie'). No, there are hot messes here too, including Peggy Bundy ('Married...With Children'). She might not be perfect, but she definitely loves her (totally messed up) kiddos. Claire Dunphy ('Modern Family'), for all her crazy, is actually a pretty awesome, fun mom to have.

In the 1980s, NBC began to seriously dominate Thursday night programming with a lineup that included some of these first-rate comedy TV shows, including 'The Cosby Show,' 'Cheers,' 'Family Ties' and 'A Different World.' The "Must See TV" trend continued well into the 1990s, with shows like 'Seinfeld,' 'Frasier,' 'Mad About You' and, of course, 'Friends.' Today, the NBC Thursday night comedy lineup includes '30 Rock,' 'The Office,' 'Parks and Recreation' and 'Community.'

This list of the best NBC comedies of all time features so many multiple Emmy Awards nominees and winners, it's staggering really. But it's not just the big name shows: Several great comedy programs on NBC didn't last long, but they made a great impact on pop culture. Some of the best NBC sitcoms from the late 70s and early 80s are also included, like 'Diff'rent Strokes' and 'Gimmie a Break!' And who could possibly forget Will Smith's 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'? Fortunately, many of these great comedies that originally aired on NBC will continue to live on in syndication (probably forever).
