Unlike the other big North American sports, the NHL is by far and away the most unpredictable league. While it's easy to prognosticate what teams will make the playoffs (well, partially because more than half of them do) picking a Stanley Cup winner is a lot more of an art than a science. A team can gallop through the regular season, even taking home the President's Cup for best record, but the only thing that assures you is a pat-on-the-back and home ice advantage. Put it this way, this is something you don't want. Last year's winners, the Los Angeles Kings, were the sixth seed in the Western Conference, and their opponents, the New York Rangers, were fifth in the East. Either way, as 2014's finalists show, hockey is a difficult sport to predict.
But alas, you can play Doc Emerick or Don Cherry on this list. All 30 teams are listed, so vote for the one you think will be hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup come June. A lot of the favorites should be at the top of this list. Will Pittsburgh bounce back from another disappointing playoff run? Or will Boston and San Jose put shocking playoff defeats behind them?
While we don't know much, here's our chance to give it the old college try.
