Hot Rod Guitar: The Danny Gatton Anthology
Honestly, I think Danny Gatton was the greatest guitarist who ever lived. He could play it all, and play it all with jaw-dropping technique and (when he wanted to) with whiplash speed! Blues, Jazz, Rock, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, you name it, he could play it (and better'n anyone else).

On the Blue Side
1989. Hank Crawford on alto sax; Jimmy McGriff on the Hammond B-3 organ. Gloriously funky, filled with addictive grooves and great melody lines. A criminally underrated Jazz / R&B album.

Songs for the Daily Planet
1994. Quite possibly the best debut album by ANYBODY EVER. Funny, clever, inspirational, and emotionally moving.

The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions
Howlin' Wolf, the Blues legend with the growling voice, jams with English rockers Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts. Blues "purists" dismiss this, but it smokes and sizzles and burns like a wildfire!

Porgy and Bess
When people think of Miles Davis albums, they usually think first of 'Kind Of Blue' and a couple of others. But for my money, this was probably his best (thus most underrated).

The Endless Summer II
Electric guitar-driven soundtrack of the (excellent) movie 'The Endless Summer II'. Gary Hoey ("Who he?") shreds the frets with great Surf Guitar tracks that cover a number of styles. From the Charlie Brown theme 'Linus And Lucy' to 'Surfdoggin'' (sand & surf meets Country pickin') Hoey rocks out!

Nils Lofgren
1975. Nils Lofgren's first solo album features catchy songs and tasteful guitar licks. Almost any one of the tracks could have / should have been a big radio hit. The cover shows Nils looking his Rock 'N' Roll rebel, bohemian coolest, swilling Grand Marnier straight from the bottle.

Letter from Home
Sure, Pat Metheny Group fans know this one is excellent, but no one else has ever heard of it. Jazz/Rock fusion that is incredibly catchy. By the 10th listen you'll know every melody and be hooked. Great for driving to!

Potato Hole
All instrumentals, all groovin', funky, and rhythm & bluesy. The American keyboardist legend and music master is backed up by the Drive-By Truckers.

BOOMTOWN
BOOMTOWN by David & David (David Baerwald & David Ricketts). The song 'Welcome To The Boomtown' went to #37 on the charts in 1986. The Davids broke up, never releasing another album together. This is "The Lost Classic" from the '80s.
