Are you looking for similar books to Game of Thrones? First and foremost, if you haven’t finished the entire series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, you should. Then you can join everyone else in the world who bellyaches about how long it’s taking for the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter, to come out. If you’re all caught up, however, you’re looking for alternatives, books like Game of Thrones.
This list includes several excellent recommendations by some of the best fantasy authors of all time, and chances are, you’ll find at least one or two books you like enough to delve into another epic fantasy series. And by all means, if you’re a GOT fan and you’ve got additional books that you feel must be on this list, add them. Vote up the books you think others with similar tastes will enjoy, and of course, vote down any books on this list that you think don’t necessarily belong.
If you’re into reading great fantasy series’ (and really, of course you are, you’re here), some of the best, hands down, are The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan (start with The Eye of the World), the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (start with The Name of the Wind), the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson (start with Gardens of the Moon) and The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb (start with Assassin’s Apprentice). All of these books are filled with compelling, memorable characters and most of them are dark, gritty and intriguing (especially The Wheel of Time series).
And really, if you’re a die-hard George R. R. Martin fan, you’re going to want to read everything else he’s written, too.
