12/31/13: James Avery, popularly known for his portrayal as Uncle Phil on 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,' died on New Year's Eve. Avery passed away after complications from open-heart surgery. After his role as Philip Banks, the actor continued working on television and movie projects up until Sept of 2013. He was 68.

1/28/14: Pete Seeger, legendary folk singer who influenced an entire generation with his songs, including "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)" and "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" died of natural causes at the age of 94. He influenced the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan and popularized folk music.

Philip Seymour Hoffman
2/2/14: Philip Seymour Hoffman died at 46 years old. His body was discovered in his Manhattan apartment. His cause of death has yet to be determined. Hoffman won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Leading Actor for his role in the 2005 film Capote.

1/3/14: Phil Everly, one half of the band The Everly Brothers, has died of lung disease. The member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Country Music Hall of Fame was part of a duo Rolling Stone magazine described as "the most important vocal duo in rock". He was 74.

Russell Johnson
1/16/14: Russell Johnson, best known in his role as 'The Professor' on the hit TV show "Gilligan's Island", has died of kidney failure. After serving in WWII, Johnson went on to guest star in shows like "The Episodes of Superman" and "The Twilight Zone" before landing the role on the Sherwood Schwartz sitcom. He was 89.
