Blessed Child
Dekker weaves a compelling and emotional story that’ll keep the pages turning until the story is through. When an author releases three books a year, it’s hard to keep up with their current releases, but in the case of the Caleb Books, their certainly worth a dive into Dekker’s backlist.
Heaven's Wager
Heaven’s Wager was Ted Dekker’s first published offering. While Dekker’s certainly grown in his writing style and methods, this is no trace of amateurism in the novel.
When Heaven Weeps
In the preface to The Heaven Trilogy, a 3-in-1 re-release that includes Heaven’s Wager andThunder of Heaven, Dekker remarks that many readers—even those who aren’t fans of any of his other books—find When Heaven Weeps their favorite. In truth, I have to consider it Dekker’s best by far. His use of imagery, poetic dialogue, and strong character development develop a theme of God’s unfailing love around a plot that you literally cannot tear yourselves away from. Dekker has written several great novels since, and I’m sure will write even more, but this is still his masterpiece.
Black
Black is marvelous, but it’s only the beginning, the first part of Dekker’s retelling of redemptive history. It’s really only the first part of the story. Which is why you’ll have Red sitting by your side when you finish. You’ll not even want or need a breath above before diving deep into the mythos Dekker has created.
Red
If Black tells the story of the birth of evil, Red tells the story of mankind’s redemption from it through blood. Dekker’s allegory, symbolism, and metaphor are again intricate and flawless. His portrayal of the character Justin is so well-done that many who have read it at first missed—as did Thomas Hunter—what should have been obvious. Red is the story of the heartbeat of redemption, the song of salvation, the psalm of propitiation, the exclamation of expiation, the Story of all stories retold in a fresh new way.
White
While Black chronicles the birth of evil and Red its redemption from it, White is the story of the great pursuit—God’s romance of his people. A symbol of the Christian era, or how it’s supposed to look,White challenges Christian stereotypes and assumptions, pushes us into a deeper and more substantial faith, all while racing through an entertaining can’t-put-it-down Story.
Forbidden
Master Storytellers Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee have combined forces to weave a tale more breath-taking and mind-blowing than any you’ve ever read. Fans of Dekker will assuredly see his hand in pacing, plotting, and structure. Fans of Lee will definitely see her work in crafting the eloquence, lending it the literary and medieval mystique that solemnly sets the tone. Forbidden is a unique blend that results in a true collaboration—the molding and meshing of mind and Story to create a tale that is hauntingly beautiful and extravagantly intense.
Outlaw
Outlaw is the book I’ve been waiting on Dekker to write. It’s not that his previous books over the past couple years haven’t been good (they have), but that I wanted to see Ted write something that he hadn’t written before, with a unique setting and a compelling storyline and a powerful message. Outlaw accomplishes all of that. Readers will be talking about this one and discussing it weeks after they close the final page.
The Sanctuary
Deeply philosophical, yet compulsively readable. Inherently theological, yet pulse-pounding in its intensity. Ted Dekker’s The Sanctuaryis well worth waiting for. You’ll want to wrestle with it, savor it, consider it, second-guess it, and, as it settles into its climax, simply hang on for the ride.
The Priest's Graveyard
Dekker’s writing continues to get better and better as he tackles more complex themes and brings to life more complex characters. His writing shines like a light upon the soul, inviting introspection and demanding thought into humanity’s deepest issues. More than just an author who seeks to solely entertain, Dekker is a Storyteller—one who laces their tales with meaning, purpose, and passion for the sake of helping the reader discover some new Truth. And The Priest’s Graveyard is another solid accomplishment in that goal.
