Songs From The 70
What does a great 70's song sound like? Three main sounds defined the 70's: Disco, Progressive Rock and Funk (Soul). I tried to find the best songs in all three groups. Perhaps I should have included more Bee Gees songs, but I wanted to show the depth of the 70's, so I didn't want one artist to have too many songs. Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney and Wings were very popular in the 70's, but some of their songs could have easily been hits in the 80's, as their sound was similar in both decades. Elvis Presley's songs were mostly for the 50's and 60's, so I left out Elvis on this list. I felt like Suspicious Minds could have been a hit in the late 60's, so I left that song out. Michael Jackson (Jackson 5), Carpenters, Olivia Newton John, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, and Aretha Franklin were also very popular in the 70's, but I felt like their songs could have crossed over to other decades. I tried to make this list mostly about songs that sound like the 70's, so some artists were intentionally left off the list. I hope everyone enjoys listening to these songs, and help me figure out which ones truly sound the most like the decade of the 70's.
